This week at work, I volunteered to make no sew blankets for children. This was the first time I made these blankets and I really loved the idea since I do not know how to sew. That weekend my husband and I were out shopping for new pet beds for our fur babies and I couldn’t find one with a pattern I liked.
I love the modern vintage style of decorating (the hubby, not so much) and I wanted the bed to be a place were the fur babies could lay with us on the couch. This being said, it was important to me that it matched our decor, but we were finding nothing.
I decided that I could make them a pillow with my new-found no sewing “skills”. I have plenty of extra pillows lying around and I was sure I could find fabric that I loved for under $10.
I love this project. I am not the most crafty of people and this project is very forgiving. It doesn’t have to be perfect and it still turns out amazing.
The no sew items that I’ve seen are mostly made of fleece since the material doesn’t fray as much, but I wanted something a little thicker and cooler for our fur babies. I know it’s fall, but we live in the south. We are still hitting mid-80 degree weather here. I found exactly what I was looking for at Hobby Lobby. I love this fabric!
Here are the steps to my $10 no sew pet pillow.
- 2 yard of fabric (This can be 2 different fabrics. If you chose this ways, it will be 1 yard of each type of fabric.)
*If you are using 2 yards of the same fabric, cute fabric in half.
Lay 1 yard of fabric on top of the other. (All steps include both pieces of fabric being on top of each other.) Take your pillow and place it on top of the fabric. From the edge of the pillow, measure out 4-5 inches.
From your 4-5 inch measurements, cut edges off of fabric. Cut both pieces of fabric at the same time because you want them the same size.
Cut a 3″ square out of all four corners.
With the fabric still one on top of the other, cut 1″ strips 3″ high all around the edges of the fabric.
Once you have completed your strips, take your pillow and place it between the two pieces of fabric. Starting at one corner, take a strip of fabric from the top and one from the bottom and tie it in a double knot. Pull it as close to the pillow’s edge as you can. Continue this all the way around the pillow.
There you have it! You now have a beautiful and unique pet pillow. I hope this post was helpful. My fur babies are loving their new pillow. How are your pets loving their’s? Did you do anything differently? Let me know in the comments.
